Rob, even a modest soundcard running Spectrogram or any of other such
programs will probably do a better job as an audio spectrum analyzer than an
analog hardware unit.
I have done extensive spectral studies of receiver and filter responses with
such a system, with remarkably good and useful results. Even such PSK31
programs as DigiPan and MixW function quite well to illustrate the spectral
content of a complex signal.
