Hi All,

K2#3363 begins to live! Two problems so far: The first (horror of horrors)
was when the LCD panel slipped when being soldered and ended up about 2mm
proud at one end. All thirty odd connections made(OHMIGAWD).

After careful consideration, I removed as much solder as possible (using
wick and sucker) from each connection and clipped the leads flush to release
the display. I cleaned the pads out, repositioned the display and
re-soldered. Got away with it. You can't tell I bollixed it.

The second problem was more subtle.I got to page 45 where you check out the
sidetone oscillator. Absolutely dead. After probing around the LMC660 where
all looked normal and looking at the TONELEVEL signal which was moving up
and down nicely as I twiddled the knob to vary level, I discovered that Q6 a
2N7000 controlling level was short circuit drain-source (well, only 6 ohms
anyway). I replaced it and the oscillator oscilled.

I've had problems with 2N7000s before. They're veerry sensitive to static
discharge. I 'spect I was careless.

Best,

Paul :-)
