All:

Please forgive me for this duly controversial and clearly
off-topic subject, but I have come to implicitly trust the
opinions and observations of the folks with whom I have
rubbed the RF equivalent of elbows here. I salute you.

I dearly love my K1 and K2; they are unquestionably the
finest radios I have ever owned, especially with regards to
(1) the receiver, and (2) the TX CW waveform. That said, I
sadly must confess that I occasionally (just occasionally,
mind you) indulge in the blasphemous practice of flash-frying
low-flying sparrows who know not of the Inverse Square Law
regarding radiant energy with the authoritative iron fist of the
Alpha 87A. Darwin may yet correct this, given time, but in the
meantime, we for now enjoy roast squab.

Ahem. On to the inevitable point of this somewhat lengthy
dissertation.

There are a number of very good automatic antenna tuners
available these days. Unfortunately, apart from the revered
Heath SA-2500, I haven't seen an *automatic* antenna tuner
capable of honestly handling the legal Amateur limit without
ultimately becoming an aromatic pile of slag suitable for
disposition via the Pooper Scooper. There was a series of
articles published fairly recently in QST regarding such a tuner,
but, from what I could ascertain, it could only be built at the
cost of years of searching for obscure parts and the lives of
thousands required to fabricate the necessary sheet metal
components. While I'm like Errol Flynn with a soldering iron,
I'm rather like Rodney Dangerfield when confronted with
serious metalworking projects. I get no respect...no respect
at all.

Mesdames et messieurs: your input will be much appreciated.

Does anyone know of a good AUTOMATIC antenna tuner
capable of handling the legal limit? Cost is no object.
