[Elecraft] Using SPLIT on the K2

This is not the same as a dual receive capability, which is what the
original posting was all about. There are at least two instances where
simultaneous reception on two different frequencies is desired. First, as
in the example below, when one wants to monitor both the transmit and
receive frequency of the other station. You want to know precisely when the
other station transmits, not a guess about when to push a button to get back
to his frequency. The result of dual receive is "canceling" the split he
has created because you hear both frequencies simultaneously. Yet because
you, too, are split, you don't transmit on his transmit frequency. The
second case is when one is CQing and listening for callers on BOTH one's
transmit and a split frequency. This is a typical case on 40 meter phone or
160 where some stations in the world are restricted to one sub-band while
others are restricted to a different, non-overlapping, sub-band.
The K2 cannot currently provide this capability. Even with two K2s, some
additional switching and muting is required to accomplish the feature. This
capability exists in many modern transceivers and is a K2 wish-list request
by some of us ... even if it can only be accomplished with dual K2s.
