Actually DEM are now marketing a K2 version of their 2m transverter that fits inside the K2 case (provided you don't have the battery or auto ATU fitted, as it uses the same space). It includes the required interfacing, and uses one of the transverter holes in the case for RX/TX. It only gives 100mW TX power output though, and is promoted as an IF for microwave systems. However, I built my transverter long before this became available, so I use exactly the scheme described by Don, and it works very well.
