[Elecraft] Transverters

Remember me? I'm the one that didn't understand why transverters were all
that popular and/or necessary (just buy a dang radio for the band
ferchrissake).
Well, I've come into a nifty one (I think)... a mint Yaesu FTV-901R with all
the modules (50, 144 & 440 Mhz). It was originally an option for the
FT-101ZD, 901DM & 902DM Transceivers. Well I just sold my 101ZD but I have a
spare 901DM I could use with it but it might also be worthwhile to
'experiment' and use it with my K2. It needs about 10-20mw to drive it for
an RF out of 10w.
I've read the 'Transverter Application Note' on the elecraft website and
while I learned a lot 'conceptually', I also realized I'm still 'transverter
ignorant' as a practical matter and thus best not jump in there until I
understand the K2 transverter modes better. Certainly don't want to fry
anything in the FTV-901R cuz getting it fixed it might be a problem
I've looked in the manual and only see reference to J13 (Transverter IO) and
reference to the 'transverter option'. I see reference to the firmware to
support transverters in the Transverter Application Note but can only find a
short reference to transverter band functions in the 2.01 firmware update.
Not that I'm chomping at the bit to get underway, but I'd appreciate any
help in pointing me in the right direction to better understanding how I
might use the FTV-901R with the K2. Of course my only experience with VHF is
FM so I'm not sure what I'd actually do with it anyway. I'm not sure if
there is much SSB VHF going on in my area and living in a condo have very
limited capability to try Satellite, EME, etc. modes. More a 'technical
learning experience' than anything I suppose.
