I don't plan to look elsewhere.  I just thought it might possibly be a
way to get a bit of more audio out of my K2.

As I mentioned before, my K2 has ample audio on all signals except for
the very, very weak ones.  This statement is also true which is also true
for my FT-1000MP.

As a topband DXer, most signals that I encounter are in that very, very
weak category.  On those weak CW signals the AF gain pot is cranked wide
open on either my K2 or my MP.

Keep in mind that I use the narrowest selectivity available (for best S/N
ratio) when receiving such signals.  This means using the 60 Hz audio
filter and 125 Hz xtal filter with the MP.  On the K2, it means having
the variable xtal filter set at 50 Hz and the audio filter set at "AF2". 
Otherwise, the weak signals I'm talking about here are not even
detectable.

I'm writing off the audio gain problem as "normal" for the K2 as well as
the MP.
