I said that I had done the "scratchy pot" mod to my K2 and that the issue
was whether the mod left any pins of U9 floating (which I haven't yet
looked into). Maybe they, or someone else can save me the trouble of
investigating this.

I did the modification and am looking the schematic with my notes and can 
tell you that no pins other than pin 1 are left unconnected.  Guess you 
will have to look elsewhere.
