Perhaps your DSP unit (on which you attach your headphones or speaker) is
providing some audio gain that you're not aware of, because the output of
the DSP filter is *not* the actual output of the K2.  Try  your K2 with
the DSP unit disconnected completely from the circuit and see how the
audio is.

One of these days I might try my DSP unit with the K2.  Maybe that will
provide ample audio on those very weak signals.
