I have K2 S/N 00008... and it, too exhibits a lack of AF output as well. 
While the sidetone can knock my socks off, received signals seem to be able 
to drive the AF output as well.

Gary and I are presently working to try to find the problem. He's preparing 
a set of AF and RF voltages for a known level of RF input to the ANT jack 
and then tracing the signal from that point all the way to the speaker.

I'm hoping this will help me to trace out the problem, which may well be 
common to many, if not all, K2s.
