I wasn't aware that any other modern radios had this problem, but it
certainly is possible.

The only other radio that I owned that had xtal filter bleedthrough was a
new Drake R-4C I bought in the early '70s. I added a lot of shielding to
the receiver, but I was never able to completely get rid of the
bleedthrough.

I now know that one of the Sherwood mods (installation of the 600 Hz 1st
IF xtal filter) took care of the R-4C bleedthrough problem.
Unfortunately, I never did that mod. The radio was sold long ago and I
understand that the new owner incorporated all of the Sherwood mods.

With the Sherwood mods, the old Drake R-4C is rated as the best receiver
in the field today -- even better than the K2 on IMDDR3 and BDR figures.
Many of them are still in use today by topband DXers.

No, ARRL labs did not review the R-4C with Sherwood mods, however INRAD
published figures for its tests on the Sherwood R-4C compared to its
tests on modern radios.
