[Elecraft] Crystal grounding for blow-by (was: Team Elecraft etc.) Opinions

HI

I run my own electronic design company. My company is very small (just me=
) Elecraft is a small company also and there are just so many things you =
can do. There are large set up fees at the board houses when changes are =
made to a board design and if you have a large quantity of boards in stoc=
k you don't want to pitch them out just because of a change or mod if the=
mod can be implemented easily by other means. The price of the circuit b=
oards reduces as the quantity increases. I order in 2000 piece quantities=
to get the price down. Elecraft may not order at this level but it still=
makes sense to order in 250 to 500 piece quantities. I am sure the appro=
ved mods will be incorporated into the boards as soon as economically fea=
sible and time allows. The mods for the K1 have already been added to the=
current production board so if we are patient the mods to the K2 will co=
me as well. In the mean time we can do the mods our self instead of sendi=
ng the radio back to the manufacturer like YaComWood-TenTec. I have a Ten=
Tec 526 6n2 radio I had to send back to TenTec to have a couple of RF cho=
kes added. They would not send me the parts and instructions to do it mys=
elf. I had to box it up and send it to them for a couple of weeks. At lea=
st Elecraft will do everything to help you install the mods yourself and =
as Martha Stewart would say "that's a good thing". (too bad She's in so m=
uch trouble)

I have no idea how many employees Elecraft has, but I would bet it
is not as many as Kenwood, Yaesu, or Icom have in their corporate offices=
.
There's a limited time budget for the designers to handle such things.
Perhaps it's a lower priority because the Elecrafters seem to be a =20
group of hams which doesn't MIND doing a lot of the legwork themselves.

Let's vote....who would have preferred a K2 respin to coming up with the
KPA100?

...sounds like crickets....hmm...

You do raise good points, Earl. Bottom line is a good businessman has to
balance time/money/inventory/sales/support and I am sure that we
fans/customers
only see part of the story. There are probably other factors which keep =20
a respin out of the radar screen.

By the way, I hope the Orion proves to be outstanding. =20
