Opinions are like noses-we've all got one, so here's mine. I've run an
FT1000D, and an Icom 746 with the 500 Hz filter in the 9 Mhz IF and 250 Hz
filter in the 455 Khz IF. In all honesty, I can say that I am able to listen
a lot longer to the K2. With its low noise floor, the K2 receiver is much
easier on the ears. I have the CW filters set for 1500 Hz, 700 Hz, 400 Hz,
and 100 Hz-pretty much the stock K2 setup. It's great to be able to utilize
the narrowest setting and still have the audio sound as nice as it does.
During Field Day, the CW subbands are plenty crowded. and, using a K2, I
never had any insurmountable problems with nearby strong signals. If an
interefering signal is zero beat with the one you want, there's nothing you
can do about it anyway. Next Field Day, I'm leaving the "big rigs" home, and
bringing along my K2.
