Although the crystal filter mod helps the ultimate rejection of the K2 a =
lot, it still doesn't give you filters that are as sharp as the double ca=
scaded filters on an FT-1000 or similar rig. And if you want a real brick=
wall, you can add the DSP on the Yaesu to get one. Whether such steep fi=
lters are actually an advantage are partly a matter of operator taste; so=
me like them, some don't.
I've sometimes thought that a "CW contester" option for the K2 would be i=
nteresting. It would install in place of the SSB board, and contain one o=
r two VERY sharp CW filters (12 poles or thereabouts). It would likely be=
expensive, because the crystals would require very close matching; you m=
ight even have to tweak each filter individually with selected caps to ge=
t the right response, which would require that the option be pre-built ra=
ther than a kit, since the typical builder would have neither the parts c=
ollection nor the instrumentation necessary to adjust the filters. Still,=
there might be enough people interested in such a thing to justify the d=
esign effort.
