     I have a 706m2 -- it is now relegated to VHF contests and FD GOTA
operations.  I bought it as my first HF radio, and thought it performed
admirably!  It certainly worked better than my elmer's TS-120s :).  A few
years later, I started regularly working CW in the novice bands, and soon
found that the rig didn't behave very well when the band started filling
with broadcast stations and noise.  Looking for a more portable rig, I
built a K1 (yes, the little one :), and found myself experiencing a world
of difference! Lets just say that I immediately stopped using the 706 :).
I just finished the base K2 a few weeks back.  There's no comparison.
