[Elecraft] K2 AM-receive mod idea?

There was some talk about modifying the K2 to do AM mode
in receive for casual SWLing. I don't have a K2 (yet) but I asked
my brother about the idea, asking if it would detect AM by
just disconnecting the BFO (not knowing much about product
detectors...):

Sounds like someone should give it a try! No idea how tough
it would be to implement.
