[Elecraft] ELPAC and other power supplies ...

Howdy All,

I use an Elpac WRI4212 12V, 3.5A supply I purchased from ALL Electronics
last year. I haven't had any problems operating the K2 at 5W with this
particular model. Higher power operation would be a problem for this supply
because of the 3.5A max. limit. It has an on-board potentiometer that allows
you to adjust the output voltage above or below 12V. Mine, as I recall, is
set to 13.6V; however, I beleive that it can be set as high as 14V. Another
nice feature is it is a simple matter of switching (plugging/unplugging) the
power cable from a USA style plug (120V, 60Hz), to a Euro plug (for 220V,
50Hz), should you need to use it in overseas.

When I originally opened the supply to change out the output cable to one
compatible with the K2, I was surprised by the quality components used in
the supply. All European components from what I could tell (Elna cap's,
etc.). Also, I have yet to notice any supply related noise being picked up
by the K2. Surely there is some, I just haven't heard any.

Well, that's my 2-cents worth on this particular Elpac supply.

Regards, Thomas - AC7A (Tucson)

My ELPAC #W7212 6-amp power supply seems quiet, ok-regulated,
but it only puts out 11.6 volts DC (drops to 11.3 VDC K2 key down) ...

Upon inspecting it, it doesn't look like a trivial task to ratchet up the
output voltage ... the lower-than-desired voltage isn't a problem for
me because I have no need to run my K2 at more than 5 watts (it
does 10+ on all bands <g>...)

Maybe the ELPAC supplies aren't quite up to par, and that's why they
sell so reasonably ?

Have any Elecrafters used the Power Supply shown at the link below
for their K2 or K1 or other QRP rig ?
