That sounds like the self installing .exe version wasn't 'compiled'
correctly. You see that exact problem often with the initial release of a
self-extracting program which is why I normally just opt for the simpler
zipped version.
You might want to try downloading it again just in case the file transfer
itself was corrupted somehow (although these days that's unlikely). Also, if
there was a problem the author may already know and has fixed it already. If
it still fails you might want to let the author know.
In the interim there is always the .zip file.
