well I posted about how my ssb module was working, only to fine two days
later it died on me again. I think I may have solved the problem last
night, after a hair pulling session. I discovered while taking
resistance readings that when applying pressure to the module board I
would show a hit and miss short to ground from pin 10 of U1. I removed
the resonator and U1 to make sure they were not the problem and it still
appeared. I found a very microscopic piece of copper trace from the
resonator island to the surrounding ground plane of the board. I removed
that and now can not longer make the short appear. Unfortunately I
damaged the resonator removing it from the board, but Scott at elecraft
is sending me another one so no problem there. Hopefully this will get
the puppy up and running. The KPA100 project is going great guns, I am
just about finished with it. I made the mods to the control board last
night and got the rs232 interface working now on to the final alignment
and away we go. This is sort of stuff that makes building gear fun and
keeps a guy on this toe's
