Far afield from K-rigs here, so I'll keep it short. 

I got on the air  at 5 wpm in the 50's. We had novice bands back then.
It was great because it was a hunk of band set aside for beginners and
well populated with slow speed ops at that!. 

How about some specific frequencies set aside for "slow speed" (<10 wpm)
operating? I'm always willing to grab the hand pump and work with a 5
wpm station for a bit. I consider it part of paying back all the great
ops that have helped me over the past 50 years of Hamming, and most of
them are grateful for a little rag chew saying that if they can get a
response at all, the other guy sends way too fast and cuts the QSO
short.
