[Elecraft] Tuning L34 on K2 - Which Method?

There appear to be several methods to tune L34. Two that I am familiar with 
are:

1.  Connect a DMM to LM380N-8 side of R20 on the Control Board.  Set it for 
AC volts and tune to the 7.0 Mhz birdie.  Be sure to turn up the AF volume to 
a sufficient level.     

2.  Connect the DMM to the hot end of R2, turn preamp on, AGC on, RF Gain 
fully clockwise.  Tune in the 7.0 Mhz birdie.

Which is the preferred way to set L34?  Thanks for your comments.  Roy Morris
