[Elecraft] using KAT100 without KPA100 or KIO2 - anyone try it?

RE: my request a few weeks back, saying that I would see a K2 in
my future but that I needed a tuner to use it (like my K1/KAT1) but
since I would also get the KPA100 "eventually," would prefer to
get the KAT100 at the same time I order the basic K2. So the problem
was, how to get the K2 to talk to the KAT100 without having the KIO2
installed....

I was just curious if anyone has tried this (un-endorsed by
Elecraft ;-) mod and whether it worked or not. The market is
decidedly narrow! I just didn't want to get a KAT2 _or_ a KIO2
and KAT100 combo, just to get rid of the KIO2 once I got the 
high power amp.
