I asked the same question of my local elmer WA7SPY (he's built both a K1 &
K2) while building K1 #1390.
There's a tradeoff between bandwith and tuning resolution (ie how much the
freq changes for each turn of the knob),
which is why Elecraft leaves the choice up to you. The VFO pot on the K1
has a fixed number of turns, so picking
150 KHz will about double the frequency change for every knob turn. I chose
80 KHz and the resolution seems just right.
