Well, my little K1 and randomwire did okay.
I got eight new ones: Kaliningrad, Panama, US VI, Portugal, Gambia,
Ascension, St. Martin, and Jamaica. Failed to bust the pileups
around Paraguay, Sierra Leone, Mexico (still need that!), Upper Vo...I
mean Burkina Faso. But the ones I worked make 95 countries so far for #1073.
I occasionally heard good DX at the limits of the VFO range by using
the RIT...it is tempting for me to switch my K1 to the 150 kHz range
instead of the 80 it currently has for that reason, hi.
It kills me sometimes when DXpedition ops only pause 0.10 seconds
between CQs. Don't they WANT to work stations? Some of us QRPers
sure would. "Thank you" to the ops who actually stop and LISTEN for the
weak ones in the pileup.
Previous weekend I was up on the coast of Maine with the K1
and a 75' random about 6 feet up, but that was above a beach
cliff. Best DX that night was Antarctica -- R1ANZ in Mirnyy Base,
10,700 miles or so on 20m. Outstanding. That QSL will be worth
the wait.
Definitely a K2 in my future if nothing else to get all bands. That
is, unless they come out with a 9-band board for the K1 first. ;-)
