Larry,
We discovered recently that some of the BFO crystals, from a new manufacturing
lot, had higher Q than usual. You apparently received one of these sets, even
though we've tried to pull them all out of stock.
The high-Q crystals will work very well, but you'll need to increase the
capacitance of C174 and C173 to get another few hundred Hz or so of range. We
have already solved the problem this way in two cases that I know of.
All you need is a capacitor in the range of 39-68 pF to parallel across C174,
and one in the range of 100-180 pF to parallel across C173. The capacitors
should be of a stable type (NPO or C0G or N750; disc, mono, S.M., polystyrene,
etc.). If you don't have a couple of usable caps laying around, send e-mail to
[email protected] and we'll get them out to you.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
73,
Wayne
