The problem with media player and the streaming audio formats that it 
supports is that they are designed for Quality and network robustness not 
responsiveness.
Speak Freely is a telephone application and as a result low delay is more 
important then robustness.
You can select various codecs (methods of encoding) the trade here is 
bandwidth versus Quality
