[Elecraft] am I the only one having this problem

Is it possible that you have installed lock-washers between the
barrel-like retaining nut/bolt and the chassis or between the nut and
the socket and the inside? The nuts used to retain the plugs are of
such a size that if there is any washer between them and the barrel-nut
that the plug will not be fully inserted into socket mounted on the
chassis. If there is a washer between the socket and the chassis this
would also keep the socket/plug separated.
Another possibility is that there might be excessive hangover of the
plastic on the plug case, shell, guard (Is this what you are calling the
retainer?) Take either end of the cable (male/female) and see if they
join and seat properly. If the small overhang is limiting the travel so
that they do not properly seat, then you either need new shells or need
to trim off a VERRY small amount of this overhang. Keep in mind that
this overhang hold the db9 into the shell and don't get rid of all of
it.

I have noticed that the db9 connectors supplied with the kpa100 and the
kat100 are sometimes intermittent when used with the retaining screws.
It looks like tightening up the retainers won't allow the db9 to fully
seat into its counterpart. Anyone else notice this or just me
