[Elecraft] K2 receiver testament

So I'm trying out a new 40 mtr dipole I made/hung today that is only
resonant on 17mtr (but that's another story)

I'm scanning the band and stop to listen to someone asking someone to repeat
his call sign, that "you are too far down in the noise to copy... please
repeat while I swing my antenna". The one asking for the repeat is *booming*
and the one being asked to repeat his call is about S3 to me. When the
boomer finally gives up I try the S3 signal and get an immediate reply. We
have a nice TX to PA QSO that lasted about 15-20 minutes mostly talking
about the K2 and how (even with my 'defective' antenna) I could hear him but
the boomer couldn't

At the end of the QSO the boomer calls me immediately. He'd been listening
and was astounded I could hear him since he has a TS-850S with a beam at 60'
and here I am hearing/talking to the other guy with a 10w KIT!?!? Even MORE
funny (to me) is it turns out the 'boomer' lives about 10 miles from me. No
propagation 'funny stuff' going on here, just K2 MOJO!

p.s. I have more to do to my K2 (got BFO mod on the way, etc.) but dang...
after this awesome weekend topped of by the above I'm not sure I want to
even touch it ;)
