Hi Marty:
>I am a new owner of a previously built K2 twice removed. Since I have been
>looking at the manuals that came with it and don't see any mod manuals or
>additions to existing manuals, I guess the only way to see if my K2 has any
>mods would be to open it up.
The BEST way, actually! Though some of the 'mods' are nothing more than
component value changes, which if present will probably be difficult to locate.
>Another question, my K2 came with the SSB option, is there a way to see
>how the mic socket is wired. I suppose this also is "open it up".
The 'wiring' of the mic connector is accomplished via a "Microphone
programming header" which is attached to the back side of the Fron Panel PC
board. This header is located in front of the Control Board which is the
first vertical PC board you'll see in the K2. It and the Front Panel board
are kinda sandwiched together.
In order to access the mic programming header, you'll want to pull the
Control Board out of the K2. This requires the removal of two screws from
either side of the Control Board, and then the use is the 'long handle'
5/64" Allen wrench which you SHOULD have received with the K2. Instructions
on how to remove the Control board can be found on page 38 of the Rev B K2
manual, and on page 40 of the Rev C K2 manual. Although, with practice, one
can pull this PC board without using the Allen wrench, it is NOT advised
and is certainly not nearly as easy to accomplish.
>I guess the only thing left is to "open it up", it might be educational at
>that.
It should be.
>I guess my question is, does Elecraft keep a data base of mods in what
>rigs, but that would mean the person doing the mod informed the data keeper.
To my knowledge, no such data are kept.
>OH well, I am really liking what I have so far. I am thinking of just getting
>the mod kit and go for it. First I guess I need to see if I need or want all
>of the mods, guess it might increase the value at that.
That would be a wise move.
