I:, for one, plan to look over the list of improvements very carefully and
determine whether I really "need" them or not. I also own an Icom 756PRO.
Just because the PRO II was introduced with improvements, I have not felt
the need to upgrade.
It seems to me some may forget that the original design of the K2 was good
enough to outdo just about any other receiver money can buy. It still works
as well as it ever did. If we like the pristine appearance, LEAVE IT THAT
WAY, or add what minimal "modifications" we feel we can't live without.
Frankly, the only mod I applied was crystal grounding and if there was an
improvement I could never tell it.
The absolute obsession some hams have for modifying perfectly good radios is
something I have never and will never understand. Just look at any
reflector... "Need mods for...", "Looking for mods for...", "Must have
mods for..."
What I'm saying is, yes... the appearance of my K2 has always been a source
of great pride for me, too. In the end, that look may be something I want
much more than the "improvements" offered by the upgrade.
Optionally, as Wayne or someone suggested. Sell your K2 here and build a
new one! I haven't seen any K2's, for sale here at any reasonable price,
that lasted even a day.
