Hi
You may not have the filters setup quite right yet. Have you used Spectro=
gram to set them up if not download the program and do the alignment as d=
escribed on the Elecraft website.
There are two good methods to get your 4.000 Mhz clock on frequency. The =
one in the manual on page 98 works well or you can place your SW receiver=
antenna near the control board and zero beat the 5th harmonic of the 4.0=
00 MHz clock with WWV at 20 MHz. Then you must run CAL PLL on 40 meters t=
o store all of the VFO information in the EEPROM. Please note the 4.000 M=
Hz clock only needs to be accurate while CAL PLL is running or you are se=
tting up your filters, so don't worry about it after the calibration.
If you would like to check out your K2 filters here is a quick way to mak=
e sure you have it right. Set the band to 80 meters and set the VFO to 40=
00.00 select CW mode and FL1. You should hear the MPU 4.00 MHz clock as a=
600 Hz tone assuming your side tone is set to 600. If not adjust the VFO=
a little to zero beat with the spot tone. Now cycle through the filters =
FL1-FL4. The frequency should not change at all or very little. Now witho=
ut touching the VFO frequency hold the CW REV button to select CW reverse=
. Again the tone should not change with the reverse or when cycling throu=
gh the filters.
=20
Now switch to USB mode and change the VFO to 3999.40 and you should hear =
the same note. Cycle through the filters and it should not change. Change=
to LSB and set the VFO to 4000.60 and you should hear the same 600 Hz no=
te when cycling the filters. If it will do all of the above then you have=
got it set as good as it gets.

Subject: [Elecraft] K2 #2894 complete, need some help tho
Hiya! I just completed my K2 #2894! =20
Now i need to build a dummy load and then ill proceed with the alignment =
in part III.
The kit is simply awsome! I am very impressed with the quality of all com=
ponents and the design.
Two things i am having problems with so far - (the K2 passed the alignmen=
t in part 2 and everything was as specifyed in the manual).
First i am trying to do more accurate alignment of the 4MHz oscilator wit=
h C22 and using the 10 MHz WWV . The K2 is hoked to a dipol for 10 meters=
. When i am in USB or LSB mode (and the widest filter - XFIL1) i can hear=
the carrier and zero beat it, but even then i can not hear the voice mes=
sages just before the end of each minute. I can hear the minute beep tho.=
Also the signal seems to be VERY weak (about S1-S2). The pre-amp dosnt h=
elp much. (I am able to hear WWV loud and clear at 10 Mhz using my Sangea=
n ST-909 just with the standard whip). Another SW station located at 9.98=
5 Mhz sounds better (when zero-beated) but again very weak and not as cle=
ar as on the ST-909. Could be something wrong with my receiver? (There is=
a definate jump in the noise bkg with the antenna on and off)
The second thing is when i rotate the vfo dial to scan thru the frequenci=
es, from time to time i can hear a "pop" and the s-meter jumps briefly to=
S5+ (even with the antenna disconnected). When i change the step to and =
start scaning slowly i can narrow the "pop" to a change between certain f=
requencies (10Hz step), but the "pop" occurs only during the change (its =
not like a signal that i am going thru very fast). There are few places w=
irthin the 40 m and 20 m bands where this occurs. ( I still dont have tim=
e to check the other bands)
Any help will be appreciated!
Thanks and 73's.
