Hello to All K2'ers!
Yes, I will admit that the K2 does have quite a bit of VFO drift. I do
not have all sorts of test expensive test equipment to monitor drift
closely.
My K2 #1900 has the 4.91-0195(older crystals). These crytals are
closely matched compared to others of the 0195 type. When I turn on my K2
from a cold start, frequency for WWV reads 9999.98 and then after a few hours
of operating the radio, including transmitting, the VFO reads 10000.03 for
WWV @ 10 mHz. I have noticed that the 4000.00 oscillator seems not to drift
quite as much.
This does not seem to bother me since stations I have talked to, have
not noticed the drift. My K2 resides in our basement which stays close to 70
F most of the year. I can understand that a wider range in temp would cause
more drift. Although, I did not see excessive VFO drift during field day
operation on a hot day in St. Louis.
I will await further studies on this VFO drift and would be willing to
help give any info. I'm sure that when time permits, that Eric or Wayne will
soon be updating all of us. Take care & keep those K2's transmitting. See
you all on 18.132 mHz.
73,
Rod WA9GQT K2 #1900 still QRP but plan to be QRO by 01-2003
