Wow, I'm surprised.  But dipoles do have nulls off the ends, no question about
it.

When I was in college I had a 20-meter inverted v on the roof of the apartment
building I lived in.  The center was supported by a TV mast, and the ends were
attached to bricks laying on the roof.  When I heard some DX, I would jump out
the window, run up the fire escape to the roof, move the bricks, and run back
down to the rig.  It made a BIG difference!
