Subject: [Elecraft] K1 KFL1-4 Alignment

| Hello, I am new to list. Sorry if this has been asked
| before.
|
| I am at the receiver alignment stage of my K1. Get good peaks on most
| trimmer caps, except CG and CH (40 meter) and CE and CF (30 meter). CH and
| CF show no peaks at all. Should I be worried? Should I try and rewind T4
| or T3?
|

At first, the "peaks" might be subtle or indistinct. Do the transmitter
alignment
and see what happens first! Be sure to limit power to 1.5 watts or 2 watts MAX.
More power and the peaks seem to broaden up. Be sure to do the alignment in the
order given, this is VERY IMPORTANT!. That is: 10 Mhz., 7 Mhz., 18 or 21 Mhz,
then 14 mhz. If you go back and recheck the receiver sensitivity, the trimmers
should
be correctly set. The sharpness of the adjustments in transmit mode are much
greater than in receive mode. You may have to repeat the transmitter adjustments
2-3 times, maybe more to get the peaks correct. If the first band (10 mhz.)
trimmers fall on the minimum capacity setting of C5/C6/CE/CF, you may have to
push the turns of the larger winding together a bit on either T3 or T4 respectively.
Once and only when you get the adjustment right on 10 Mhz., then proceed with the
rest of the bands.

| Am I best moving on with construction, or work this out first?
|
Move on until you get to the transmitter alignment stages!
