[Elecraft] Toroids and SSB board

While waiting for some replacement parts to continue building the rf board 
on my K2, I decided to tackle the SSB board getting my first exposure to 
winding toroids.
Two questions:
1. The toroid transformers T1 and T2 have 22 turns of red which are 
supposed to occupy 80-90% of the core. It seems hard for me to wind them 
short of almost 100% (but NOT overlapping) and still get a good fit with 
the board. Is this a problem as long as the windings don't overlap??
2. The two rfcs are supposed to be mounted on the top of the board. The 
outline on the bottom shows a horizontal layout, but I can't see space on 
the top for anything but a vertical mounting between RP1 and X3. is 
vertical correct??
