[Elecraft] Rx comparison test with the K2

Hi, Bob...

I wouldn't say "detailed," but I've done A/B testing against my 756PRO any
number of times. They're very close but I have seen a handfull of cases in
which a difficult to copy SSB signal --either due to weak signal or strong
nearby QRM-- was copyable on the K2 and not on the PRO. So far, never the
other way around. Each time, I've had a visiting ham in the shack. They
couldn't believe their ears.

I enjoy both radios. The PRO's display is awesome. And, of course, up
'till now, if I wanted to go QRO, that was my only choice. It'll be
interesting to see which one I use most when I have the 100-watt amp
installed. (It's on order... should ship this week.)

The K2 with the audio filter, in my opinion, is a much better CW receiver
than the PRO. And, incidentally, when I bought the PRO, I did some
extensive A/B testing between it any the FT-1000D I sold a couple of days
later. In a few cases, the PRO could dig a signal out that the 1000D
couldn't hear. The only place the PRO could NOT hold a candle to the
1000D was the noise blanker. Fortunately, I live in a quiet location
because the PRO's blanker sucks. Frankly, I haven't been very impressed by
the K2's blanker either, but not sure I've had a chance to test it under
really noisy conditions. When thunderbumpers were hovering 50 miles away,
I've seen QRN levels 20db over S-9. The FT-1000D's blanker would usually
reduce it to S2 or 3.

Hope this helps...

Anyone in the Elecraft Reflector group do a detailed comparison test of the
K2 vs. the ICOM 756 PROII, ICOM 746, ICOM 746 PRO or YAESU FT-1000MP MKV
Field? I noticed some new updates on the Elecraft web site, but none of
these included the above radios. I was just curious if anyone has done
extensive lab tests, A/B comparison tests etc.

Has anyone compared the ICOM 746, ICOM 746 PRO with the ICOM 756 PROII? How
do they stack-up dollar for dollar, feature for feature? How much better is
the 746 PRO than the 746. I currently own the K2, 746, OMNI VI+, 761, Drake
C-Line. Any information would be helpful since I am contemplating selling my
761 for either an ICOM 746 PRO or 756 PROII. I don't want to make a huge
mistake by selling such a great radio as the 761 and then later regret it,
hi! Hope to hear from some of you radio aficionados soon. Thanks for your
help.

Have a great holiday everyone. If anyone has one of these newest ICOM rigs
and lives in my area (Lansdale near Phila.) I would like to see these radios
operate in person if possible, thanks.
