Pre-alignment can certaily be accomplished using the noise source, but, in
most instances it can also be performed using nothing more than band noise
as well. And using Spectrogram at this juncture is probably a bit of
overkill... you ears, and with the AGC turned OFF (pressing [PRE/ATTN] and
[AGC] together turns AGC OFF/ON) will probably yield equally decent results.

The only reason I can think of using the noise source at this point would
be because some of the bands may be too 'quiet' (almost no band noise),
making it difficult to tell when things were peaked for most noise.

I would suggest that if you do use band noise, be sure to USE your antenna,
rather than a dummyload, because with a dummy antenna, there will be NO
band noise to be heard... on any band.
