Well, the Control Board for K2 #2644 is completed and the resistance checks
look good!

Given all the new kits purchased recently, I thought it might be helpful to
offer a few reflections on my experience so far....

1) This is the first time I have used a soldering station to build a kit.
What a difference it makes! How did I build all those Heathkits without
one???? I bought the Solomon one from Circuit Specialists ($39) and it
works great! I love all those nice shiny solder joints! The standard tip
on the Solomon is a bit large ... I think I will get the smaller, chisel
blade.

2) I now know why I need glasses ... from building all those Heaths and
other projects without using a magnifier! I picked up a nice incandescant
illuminated magnifier from Staples ($20). Now I can see those shiny solder
joints really well!

3) The "hamfest" tools I had left a lot to be desired. I picked up a set
from Xcelite (needlenose pliers and flush cutters) from Home Depot ($11).

Bottom Line. Good quality tools make a BIG difference in results and
enjoyment!

Total Construction time so far: 11 hours 45 minutes (including Inventory
and reading the entire manual first).

I found reading the manual cover to cover and doing a complete inventory
VERY helpful to building up the "comfort level" for the challenge of the K2.
I would strongly recommend taking the time to other builders.

Well, if you made it this far, thanks for taking an interest in my
experience!

Now, onto the Front Panel!

Peace and 73,
Stephen
