It depends on your goals.

In my case, I wanted to have the K2 be the QRP portable it started out as,
with internal battery and antenna tuner, and not mess with swapping the top
lid back and forth when I wanted more power.

For home station use, I often want the extra power, so having the KPA in the
EC2 case made sense for me.

It's a quick and easy way to have QRP or QRO operation.
