Yep, the resale value of kits is generally a lower percentage of the
original cost than unmodified commercial equipment. A buyer (unless he
is local and can give the equipment a through inspection ahead of
time) is never quite sure about the quality of the construction.

The bottom line is that kits generally don't save you any money over
commercially built equipment. These days it less expensive for a
manufacturer to build machine assembled boards than it is to write
good assembly manuals and provide customer assistance to builders.

The primary benefit of a kit is the fun you have building it, the
knowledge you gain building it, and the exerience of operating a rig
you built yourself. Also the benefit of being able to repair it
yourself.
