You can not mount the pieces on the inside because there isn't any clearance
on the circuit board.  Maybe for an extra $10 you could get Eric to have the
pieces painted.  If you want the plate straight, then you just have to take
a little care in mounting it (mine is perfectly straight).

It would also be nice if the fan was on the inside, but when you build this,
you'll find it is a fairly cramped board and there isn't much room to move
parts around.  I think it is rather impressive the amount of performance
that is obtained in this size package using through-hole parts.  The design
could be made smaller with surface mount parts, but many folks don't want to
build a kit using SMD.

I don't intend to mount my rig backwards, so I don't think I'll spend much
time looking at the plate or the fan.
