Well, when you activate it, you coul duse the VFO knob to adjust it, then
exit and go back to tunig the VFO.  The passband offset would remain in
effect until you toggled the funciton and re-adjusted it - or cleared it.

One could set up the PF1 key to toggle between the modes, assuming they were
available :-)
