Greetings,
This is my first posting so please bear with me; I am just beginning to =
learn my way around this.
I have just returned to Darwin, Australia after testing my new K2 on =
Troughton Island (IOTA OC-154). While I certainly didn't set the world =
on fire out there due to a marginal antenna (20m GP, elevated at 10', 4 =
radials, 18' RG-58) and very little air-time, once I realigned the CW =
filters, I was amazed at the K2 in general, especially the ATU, which =
apparently tuned the GP from 7 to 28 MHz, something my earlier IC-738's =
ATU would not do.
I was especially pleased to work Nao, JA6PA/qrp who was using K2 #1477.
Others worked were W1MK(MA), K1TL(RI) and N1NK(RI) on 15m CW just before =
the contest on 16-17 March. New England is real DX from the Timor Sea. =
I was running 8 watts at the time. When I get my beam back up, I'm sure =
such DX contacts will be made much more often.
My next goal is to download Spectogram and align the BFO/filters more =
precisely. However, my thanks to KR5L for his method of getting the CW =
filters very close. Then I'll try some of the mods noted on Elecraft's =
website.
I am planning to get my 3 el triband beam back up at my home QTH here in =
Darwin around May; it is committed for an IOTA "DXpedition" in April. =
So, if anyone wishes to make a sked for a QRP QSO with VK8 when the =
antenna is up, I will do whatever I can to accommodate.
By the way, can anyone steer me to the Elecraft database? The website =
is so extensive that I can't find it again. I hope I am not confusing =
it with another site but I believe it is where I posted my details. My =
email address has since changed and I would like to access the database =
and correct my information.
Thanks.
