Daniel,
Just remember, building an Elecraft kit is not a race of
speed. It is a race to see if you can have the best radio ever. My
advice, take your time and do it correctly. Check and double check
every component before soldering. Inspect each solder connection
before moving on to the next. This way your efforts will be greatly
rewarded. It is a great feeling to get on the air with one of these
radios after you do the work yourself.
I have read posts from some who claimed to have built a K2 in
50 to 60 hours. I spent about a month and a half, estimated 130
hours, but I was greatly pleased with the results. For me it was
almost a letdown to be done because I enjoyed building the kit so
much. I have even offered to build one for a couple of friends who
were not interested in the building aspect, no takers yet though. I
might be forced to build a K1 so I can have another great building
experience.
So, go ahead, do a good inventory of parts, solder that first
component, inspect it, then move on. The best of luck, I am sure you
will do great.
