I just got K2 #2536 at the Monterey Hamfest and have finished the control 
board and am now working on the front panel. I'm building this with my 10 
year son, Alex, KG6JFX. This is a formidable kit as far as sheer number of 
parts; however, it is extremely well documented and has been quite 
comfortable and enjoyable to build.

It is very helpful to be able to have someone else work with you, and able 
to cross check each others work for the right part in the right spot with a 
good solder connection.

If you just want to hone up on your soldering skills, I'd suggest get a 
little DVM kit, it's useful while building the K2.
