[Elecraft] K1 & problem using my matchbox

Hello.
For abt. 10 days my K1 4-bander (#1029) is up and running. When using
resonant antennas, I'm very satisfied with this neat, little rig.

HOWEVER:
When using e.g. a LW-antenna and my well proven matchbox, I run into
difficulties. During the matching process the K1 is reducing it's power to
0.1 Watts output - preventing any display of a SWR-dip.

POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS:
- If in an unmatched condition the K1 could reduce the power to e.g. 1 Watt
(and not so much less) output - would allow a normal matching procedure.
- If I would rework my mini SWR-meter to include an ohmic resistive bridge
(instead of my actual pickup-coil). Unfortunately a resistive bridge would
not
   fit into my current enclosure.

QUESTIONS:
- Would anyone know how to overcome the 0.1 Watts hurdle of the K1 ?
- Would a deactivation of the K1 RF-output detector (R36 lift) do the trick
without keeping the K1 at a maximum power output ?
- Any further ideas, because my problem could be a common problem with
other K1-users, who haven't installed the Elecraft internal matching device
?
