[Elecraft] K2 on 160m with battery power?

I'm not sure what's going on with these radios.

I just checked mine, and 10W on 160 takes about 3 amps (13.8 supply). I =
can't imagine why you should see such krappy efficiency on yours.

I checked with the internal metering (my variable V, metered I power =
supply is at my other QTH) into a dummy load. I got the same results =
using my (rather poor - 20m long doublet at 25 feet) antenna and the =
KAT2. I set CAL CUR to 5.0 to allow me to meter the power and current at =
these high levels (I usually run 5W - around 2 Amps).

L.S.

My K2 runs on the internal battery and is hooked up to a 2x10m dipole
(low and sloping). Output on all bands, including 160m is well over 10
Watts, except on 80m:

Allthough ATU tuning is ok, the max. output is abt 4 Watts with a
current draw of some 4.5 Amps.

Now that the weather is improving, I'll be changing over to a longer and
higher antenna, will keep you posted on any changes after that.

"EC2 contest" project progres: the workshop is cleaned out (!!!), the
engine castings have arrived and metal cutting has started. Boilerparts
such as coppertube and -plate and fittings are orderd as well, I should
be busy for the next two months or so.

73' Leo.
