Bob;

Elecraft is designed and built for hams. They don't compromise when
performance is needed.
Yaesu and some other manufactures build their gear for the market. They
compete with eachother's bells and whistles.
The more bells and whistles you put into a rig the more compromises you get.
Most of the bells and whistles on allot oc commercial gear are rarely ever
used.
Plus to get more of you hard earned money, many manufacturers do not include
basic filtering so you have to buy them as accessories. The IC-706 comes to
mind where the CW filter is too wide as well as the AM filter @ 15khz. Not
useable at all so you have to fork out more money if you want to use AM.
There are some excellent commercial gear but it will cost you more than It
should!

just my $.02

Regards,
Robert
