For something on the 'back' of a meter where a factory-new front-panel
appearance is not mandatory, I've had great success with clear nail polish.
Work fairly quickly, putting one clean layer on the label that covers it,
because the solvent will often soften the adhesive holding the label, and
messing about with the brush once the label is wet may cause it to lift and
shift. I'd also try it on a bit of scrap label material to see how it acts.

While the finished result is clear, it is also obvious where the polish was
applied on close inspection. It does have the advantage of not getting spray
all over the place though.
