Absolutely right Vic. The K2 receiver is outstanding. It can take a lot of
careless use - such as leaving the preamp on when it's not needed - without
collapsing in a "heap" of intermod among strong signals. I've worked several
ops who say they leave their K2 preamp on all the time because they like the
'noise' they hear on the bands that way. Thanks to the great dynamic range
of the receiver they can get away with it as long as there isn't a kilowatt
next door or a Short Wave broadcast station nearby.
I've noticed that the distortion artifacts created by the Noise Blanker are
noticeably worse if the preamp is on. That's to be expected.
You make an excellent point about the AGC. It is much smoother when the
pre-amp isn't driving the receiver front end so hard on the lower bands.
